        I often hear from women who are trying to conceive a boy baby. Some of the more common topics are foods, nutrition, and diet. Most people suspect that what you eat can have an impact over which gender you ultimately conceive. This perception is true. But, it’s usually not as simple as adding a few foods to your diet and hoping for the best. To have the best results, you’ll often have to have a very deliberate and methodical approach so that you aren’t just guessing. I will discuss this more in the following article.

        The Reason That Foods And Diet Can Affect Whether You Have A Boy Or A Girl Baby: Before I get into specific foods, I want to briefly explain the reason behind this whole theory. Certain surroundings are friendly or beneficial to the sperm that produce a certain gender. For example, the Y sperm which produce boys do not thrive when acidity is involved. This is their worst case scenario. So, to give them the best chance for success, you are better off introducing an alkaline environment.

        But, if you are trying for a girl baby, then just the opposite is true. While the X producing sperm (which produce girls) is more hardy and can basically get by in either environment, you are better off focusing on acidity because you are wanting to discourage or deteriorate the boy producing sperm. Making yourself more acidic in one way to do this. So to recap, for a girl you want to be acidic and for a boy you want to be alkaline.

        The Alkaline Foods To Eat When You’re Trying To Get Pregnant With A Baby Boy: Basically, you want to consume alkaline rather than acidic foods. And, you don’t want to place any caloric limitations on yourself because studies have shown us that a higher number of calories favors producing boy babies. (However, the statistics aren’t so compelling that you need to put on any weight in order to achieve this.)

        Now generally speaking, you will sometimes hear that fruits and vegetables are alkaline while meats and dairy are acidic. This is true for some of the foods in both categories, but there are always exceptions to this rule so it’s important to be careful. (And it’s even better to test this out for yourself.) For example, while lemons and watermelon are examples of highly alkaline fruits and vegetables, blueberries and plums fall into the acidic category.

        Some examples of fruits and vegetables that are desirable and alkaline are things like apricots, spinach, raisins, lima beans, peaches, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes, and cantaloupe. Some examples of acidic foods that you want to avoid are things like blueberries, asparagus, whole grains and bread, corn, cheeses, milk, nuts, and many meats.

        The Cooking And Metabolizing Process Can Affect Whether A Food Is Alkaline Or Acidic In Your Particular Case: There are many things that affect whether a food is ultimately acidic or alkaline to the particular person who is eating it. Examples are things like it’s freshness or ripeness and whether it is cooked or not. Also, some foods start out acidic but become alkaline once they are metabolized in the body. Lemons are one example. (But this applies to lemons that were fresh when picked. Things get a bit dicey when the fruit is picked when not yet ripe and then ripens in the store.)

        Since there are many variables that go into how a food is metabolized, I often tell people that it’s best to start out with a good food list but to test things for themselves. With PH testing strips, you can take your reading before a meal and then take it again after you eat to see if you are actually getting the results that you are hoping for. Everyone is different. A good food list is a great place to start, but you can typically do even better than this by testing to make sure that you are getting the reading and reaction that you need to get the baby boy that you want. Also, adding douching to the changes in your diet can often bring about more dramatic results.

        I often tell people that making guesses when you are trying to chose your baby’s gender is the absolutely worst thing that you can do. Guessing about your ovulation day or whether you have a an acidic or alkaline reading is not optimal, especially when you can easily check these things to make sure that you are right. The testing strips are inexpensive enough that you really should try to incorporate them into your regimen.

        Taking It Even Further: Acidity is important. But, you will also need to look at when and how you conceive. The timing of when you conceive (as this relates to ovulation) and which sexual positions that you use can also affect your baby’s gender. So, you will likely also want to look at timing and positioning as well as the foods that you consume and your diet.

          What is the cause of Osgood-Schlatters disease?

          Osgood-Schlatters disease occurs when the patellar tendon, (which attaches the quadriceps muscle at the front of the thigh and inserts on the tibial tuberosity) is overused. The tibial tubercle is a small bump on the tibia (your shin bone) just below your knee. Inflammation can occur when the patellar tendon tugs on the tibial tuberosity. Osgood-Schlatters disease is also known as a tibial tubercle apophyseal traction injury. When children and young athletes put a greater strain on their patellar tendon, they do so usually with sporting activities such as running and jumping.

          Tests & Diagnosis

          Upon visiting with the physician, your child will have a physical examination of their knee. The physician will be looking for symptoms such as redness, pain, tenderness, or swelling in and around the knee joint. This individual will wish to check the ROM (range of motion) in your child’s knee. To more closely examine the point of insertion of the patellar tendon, x-rays may be used to get a clearer picture.

          What can the athlete do if they have Osgood-Schlatters disease?

          Seek the advice your physician. Prior to receiving any treatment, it is very important for an individual to make sure that Osgood Schlatters Disease is causing the pain.               Crunchy Carrot Salad
              Low in sodium, this salad will more than meet your daily vitamin A requirement.

              1 1/2 cups fresh, grated carrots
              1 unpeeled red apple, chopped
              1/4 cup raisins
              1/8 cup toasted slivered almonds (optional)
              1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt
              1 1/2 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
              2 teaspoons lemon juice
              Salad greens

              Combine carrots, apple, raisins, and almonds in a salad bowl. Blend together remaining ingredients in a separate bowl and add to carrot mixture. Serve on salad greens. Serves 3.

              Squash Apple Casserole
              This dish is high in vitamin A, a good source of vitamin C, cholesterol free, and almost sodium-free.

              2 1/2 cups fresh winter squash, cut into 1/2 inch slices
              1 1/2 cups cooking apples, pared and cut into 1/2 inch slices
              2 teaspoons cinnamon
              1 teaspoon nutmeg

              Alternate layers of squash and apples in an 8″x 8″ pan, ending with apples on top layer. Sprinkle spices over top layer. Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake in 350 degree F oven for approximately 45-60 minutes until squash is tender. Remove foil and bake another 10-15 minutes to remove any excess liquid that might have accumulated. Cool slightly before serving. Serves 4.

              Baked Winter Squash

              1 large acorn or butternut squash
              2 tablespoons maple syrup
              1 teaspoon cinnamon
              Margarine or Nonstick cooking spray

              Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet with the margarine or cooking spray.

              Slice the squash into rounds 1/4 inch thick. Remove seeds on each slice and arrange squash in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake the slices for 8 minutes, turn, and drizzle lightly with maple syrup and cinnamon. Bake for 8 minutes longer; remove from the oven and let cool. Serves 4.

              Pizza Potatoes

              1/2 cup broccoli, chopped
              1/4 onion, chopped
              1/4 cup carrots, chopped fine
              1 small tomato, sliced
              2 baked potatoes
              1/2 tablespoon margarine
              1/2 tablespoon flour
              1/2 cup skim milk
              1/4 cup cheese, shredded

              Cook broccoli, onions, and carrots in a small amount of water until tender and set aside. In a saucepan, melt margarine and stir in flour. Add milk slowly while stirring. Cook until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally. Add cheese and stir until melted. Add vegetables to cheese sauce and stir. Split open potatoes. Pour equal amounts of vegetable cheese mixture over each potato. Top with sliced tomatoes.

              Serves 2.

              CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS

              2 cups floor

              ½ cup white sugar

              3 ½ teaspoons baking power

              ½ teaspoon salt

              1 egg, beaten

              1 cup milk

              ¼ cup oil

              1 cup chocolate chips

              Bake at   Bake @400 F   18-20 minutes

              GRANDMA’S WHIPPED SHORT BREAD COOKIES

              1 POUND………(500 G)……………..BUTTER OR MARSRINE

              Beat with mixer until creamy.  Drop on cookie sheet and bake at 350 F, (175 C) until slightly brown.

              More than 125 products have been recalled in an investigation into a deadly salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter used in processed foods and in institutions, with dog biscuits and granola bars among the latest on a list that is growing.

              The outbreak of salmonella illness, which began in late summer and is ongoing, has been linked to eight deaths, including two in Virginia. In all, about 500 people in 43 states and Canada have become ill. About 22 percent were hospitalized, and about half of those affected are children.

              Health officials said they would work with companies supplied by Peanut Corporation of America to continually update a recall list that is available on the FDA’s Web site. The Web site details a long list of popular products that are affected, including candies, cookies, snack bars and snack mixes

              Canadian officials warn more products may be pulled off shelves as they continue their investigation and identify other companies that may have used the contaminated spreads.

              “With the size of this recall, in terms of volume of peanut butter, we may certainly expect more recalls in this country,” said Garfield Balsom, food safety and recall specialist at the CFIA. “We will certainly be notifying the consumers.”

               Eight deaths are linked to the outbreak. However, CDC spokesman David Daigle, said salmonella outbreaks usually affect old people more than the young.

              Salmonella causes diarrheic, vomiting and fever. While it usually clears up without treatment, it can kill the old, very young and patients with other serious illnesses.
