The intracellular fluids of the body should be maintained at a 7.365 pH level. Our body is created to be alkaline by design, but acidic by function. The metabolic functions produce acid, but just like a battery, you want your pH balance to be alkaline because an alkaline environment provides the highest level of electrochemical potential. And also just like a battery, our bodies work off of electrochemical potential.

To be more specific, our nervous system works off of seventy millivolts of electrical potential; the kidneys and liver work off of forty millivolts. Certain foods will either fuel the system by adding alkalinity, or take away energy by adding acidity. All in all, the body maintains an optimal level of health and well-being when it stays slightly alkaline. That is the goal for biochemical balance with less interference and high energy production.

Acidity can be measured in potential hydrogen (pH). We can think of this as the power of hydrogen, the simplest element — a single proton and electron. The pH measures the electrical potential, or the amount of protons and electrons, in a food or substance. The more electron rich a food is, the more alkaline it’s going to be. The more proton-rich a food is, the more acidic it’s going to be. We want our food selections to be at least 70 to 80 percent alkaline or electron-rich. When electrons go into the body, they increase electrical or energy potential. The safe and effective way to have health, energy, and vitality is to simply maintain the alkaline design of the body with an alkaline lifestyle and diet.

Acidic blood wreaks havoc on many systems of the body, including the blood vessels. Acidic blood causes abrasions and irritations to the blood vessel walls, resulting in a sheering force. The rush of acidic blood through the arteries peals the artery lining off and can throw off an embolus. Cholesterol then comes to the rescue to repair the wall and cover the abrasive tear. The cholesterol helps make the area waterproof to repair the tear. This repairing cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a life saver, not an artery clogger. This type of cholesterol is usually called bad cholesterol, but it is simply doing its job to save you. The fastest way to save a person from clogged arteries is to increase alkaline food selections and increase intake of good clean, alkaline water (more about that later); all of this will contribute to diluting the deleterious effects of the acidic bloodstream. Cholesterol drugs are highly injurious: They do not get to the cause of high cholesterol levels and cause significant side-effect damage. These drugs have been linked to cancer, heart disease, memory loss, severe joint and muscle pain, and even sudden heart attack.

Blood is liquid tissue. It’s the river of life, as microbiologist and best-selling author Dr. Robert O. Young refers to it. We must keep it clean and flowing, and green-plant foods are the ideal way to do this. Green foods are some of the lowest-calorie, low-sugar, and nutrient rich foods on the planet. The green color is produced by chlorophyll, the “blood” of the plants. Its molecular structure is similar to the hemoglobin of human blood. Hemoglobin is the body’s oxygen transporter. The components of chlorophyll are almost identical to those of hemoglobin. A German chemist, Dr. Richard Wohlstetter, determined in 1913 that the two molecules closely resemble one another. He found that hemoglobin is composed of four elements: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. Hemoglobin to iron content is the main reason we need a dietary supply of that mineral. Chlorophyll has the same elements; however, they are organized around a single atom of magnesium, not iron. Chlorophyll reduces the binding of carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) to DNA, the liver, and other organs. It also breaks down calcium oxalate stones, which are created by the body to neutralize and dispose of excess acid. The best sources of chlorophyll are wheat grass and barley grass. As Dr. Young states in his writings, “Grass, this little plant we walk on and usually take for granted, is a doorway to health.” Grass has the power to regenerate our bodies at the molecular and cellular level and help us significantly increase our energy level.

There is a balance in nature as well as in the bloodstream, and one example of the expression of this balance is the tightly linked biochemistry of the two essential fatty acid groups, the omega-6 and omega-3 oils. Unlike other fats, neither is made in the human body; rather, these essential fatty acids are synthesized in the chloroplasts of plants. The chloroplasts, the green chlorophyll-containing structure of plant cells, convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into oxygen and a range of complex organic molecules, including: sugars, proteins, and fats. Only chloroplasts within certain plants (i.e., marine and fresh-water algae) produce high quantities of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. Fish feed upon this algae, which is why fish are a great source of fat and nutrition for the whole body and brain.

According to Dr. Bircher-Benner, a visionary pioneer in holistic, natural healing, “Absorption and organization of sunlight, the very essence of life, is almost exclusively derived from plants. Plants are therefore a biological accumulation of light. Since light is the driving force of every cell in our bodies, that is why we need plants.”

So we can simply say that energy is life and as long as you are putting the correct energy resources in your body and you are free of any subluxation, you will always have a good amount of energy.
